How much a website costs, and what drives the price

How much a website costs depends on five things: how many pages it has, how many languages it speaks, what it has to do, who prepares the content and what it has to connect to. Here we explain each one, the costs that come after launch and what to ask for in a quote before you pay. We do not publish a price list, but after reading this you will know why two quotes for "a website" can differ several times over.

Start with your business.

The short answer

There is no single price for a website. A one-page site with a phone number and an address that you build yourself in a site builder, and a site with online bookings, card payment and two language versions, are different products, even though both are called "a website".

So the useful question is not "how much does a website cost" but "what does my website have to do". The answer sets the scope, and the scope sets the price.

How much a website costs: the six factors

  • Number of pages Every page is designed, written and checked on a phone and a desktop. A five-page site and a fifty-page site are different jobs.
  • Languages A second language is not a translate button. The text is written and checked separately, and every page exists twice.
  • What it has to do An enquiry form, online bookings, orders, card payment or a panel you use to change the content yourself. Every feature adds work to build and to test.
  • Design A ready-made template costs less but looks like many other sites. A custom design is made around your brand and your customers.
  • Content Who writes the text and who takes the photos. If the content is ready, there is less work. If it has to be created, it is a separate part of the scope.
  • Connections to other systems Email, a spreadsheet, a CRM, a POS terminal or accounting software. Every connection has to be built and tested with real data.

Types of website, and why their prices differ

  • A site you build yourself in a site builder The lowest price. Fine for one page with contact details. Limited in design, in features and in how it shows up in Google.
  • A custom business website A few pages about the company and its services, an enquiry form and a base for Google. The most common choice for a small business.
  • A website with a system behind it Bookings, online orders, card payment or an internal panel for the team. Here the site is part of how the business works, not just a business card.
  • An online shop or portal Products, stock, customer accounts and delivery. The largest scope, the most testing and the most maintenance after launch.

The costs after launch

The build is paid once. Some costs stay every month or every year, and it helps to know them in advance.

  • Domain A yearly fee to the registrar. The domain should be registered in your name, not the developer's.
  • Hosting Where the site loads from. Paid monthly or yearly, to a provider or to the company that maintains the site.
  • Maintenance Updates, checks that the forms still work, backups and small fixes.
  • Outside services Business email, card payment, sending emails or text messages. Their providers charge their own fees.

What to ask for in a quote

Before you pay a deposit, ask for this in writing:

  • The list of pages Which pages are built and what is on each one.
  • The features Exactly what the site does: forms, bookings, orders, payment, a panel.
  • Who prepares the content Text, photos and translation: you or the developer.
  • Timeline When you will see a working version and when the site will be live on your domain.
  • Ownership Whose name the domain, the hosting and the code are in, and what you get if you change developers.
  • What is not included Listed in writing, so there are no surprises after launch.

How we set our price

We do not work from a price list, because two sites with the same name rarely have the same scope. We start with a free 20-minute call. After it you receive a written quote: which pages, what each one does, what is not included and a fixed price. Scope and price are agreed before we start.

If you are not sure a website is what you need, the €390 audit maps your processes and shows what to improve first. The fee is credited in full toward the build.

Frequently asked questions about website prices

Why do some websites cost much less than others?

Usually because they are a different product: a ready-made template instead of a custom design, one language instead of two, no forms, bookings or connections to other systems. Compare quotes by what they include, not only by the total.

Can I get a price without a call?

We can tell you what it will depend on, but not an honest figure. For a fixed price we need to know what the site has to do. That is why the call is free and takes 20 minutes.

Are the domain and hosting included in the price?

It depends on the quote, so ask. We list them separately: we can take on hosting for a monthly amount or hand the site over to your hosting. The domain stays in your name.

Which is cheaper: a template or a custom site?

At the start, the template. If the site has to take bookings or orders or connect to other systems, the template's limits often cost more than the difference in price.
